 2022 Preview 


       Mountain Brook completed the 2021 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Mountain Brook captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Mountain Brook made a nice playoff run in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Clay-Chalkville team by the score of 24-18.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Mountain Brook ranked 7th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 8.6 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Spartans have gone 24-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 104-41. Their 71.7% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Mountain Brook has gone a combined 220-84. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 6A and 27th in the AHSAA. The Spartans have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.




       The Spartans are led by head coach Chris Yeager who is entering his seventeenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 133-58 over the past sixteen seasons at Mountain Brook. Under his direction the Spartans have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Yeager.

       Coach Yeager's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 158-78 (66.9%). His 158 wins rank 26th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Yeager's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won four region championships.

       After back to back twelve win seasons the Spartans hope to get past the semifinals and book that trip to the championship game in 2022. The dfense appears to loaded after posting seven shutouts last year so expect the same thing this year.

       The Mountain Brook Spartans will play in Class 6A region five during the 2022 season.

       The Spartans enter the 2022 season having won 6 straight region games.

       The Spartans should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Spartans are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Spartans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2015 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

      

       The Spartans open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Vestavia Hills on Thursday, August 18 at Reynolds Stadium, Buddy Anderson Field. Last year the Vestavia Hills Rebels finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 7A region three. The Rebels ended last season on a positive note with a win over Shades Valley by a score of 17-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Spartans have a 28-30-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2021 with Mountain Brook winning by a score of 33-3.

       Mountain Brook returns 6A All-State Senior receiver Jackson Beatty. He was named to the second team last season.
